To our valued Salem Fiber customers:
Yesterday evening and into the early hours of this morning, Salem Fiber experienced a partial service interruption. Around 10:00 PM, we began receiving reports that internet access was not functioning as expected for some customers. Upon immediate investigation, we found that the issue was selectively affecting certain services—most notably Google and its subsidiaries—while others remained fully operational.
It became clear that the disruption originated upstream from Salem Fiber. Our team worked to determine whether the problem stemmed from our internet provider or from Google itself (similar to a routing issue that occurred last year). After thorough testing, we confirmed the problem was with our primary internet provider, and we promptly opened a support ticket.
They soon discovered a dark fiber issue between Salt Lake City and San Jose, which was responsible for the service degradation. Due to the late hour and the fact that the disruption was not universal, we made the strategic decision to allow time for our primary provider to resolve the issue, rather than immediately failover to our backup connection—doing so would have left us with only one active provider.
The issue was successfully resolved by approximately 12:45 AM, and all services, including Google-related traffic, returned to normal.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this rare outage caused. At Salem Fiber, we take our commitment to delivering high-quality, uninterrupted internet service very seriously. Our team worked diligently to address an issue that originated well upstream from our local network.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. We are proud to operate a truly community-driven network and are honored to serve the residents of Salem with fast, reliable internet.
Warm regards,
John Bowcut

Thanks for the detailed explanation and transparency. I thought for a minute I was being throttled with only certain services being affected and realizing connecting to VPN made the services work as expected. 😁
Your explanation makes total sense now and as expected everything was back to normal this morning.
Thanks again for the explanation and for providing such a phenomenal service!
Yes. The issue is completely resolved and if your WIFI isn't working please call us at 385-437-4411.
My wifi still seems to be down. Has this truly been resolved for everybody?
Edit: Resetting my router fixed my issues. Thanks!
