September 12, 2026 – Streaming Issues During BYU Game – RESOLVED

We received several reports this afternoon from customers having problems with some streaming services during the BYU football game.

Our upstream monitoring showed a network event beginning at approximately 2:50–2:55 PM. During that period, latency increased significantly and monitoring also showed packet-loss indications.

The issue was not caused by congestion or a problem within the Salem Fiber network. The problem was upstream from Salem Fiber.

Later in the afternoon, we observed a significant routing change. One path that had been taking a longer route through Seattle changed to a much shorter Salt Lake City-area path, reducing latency from approximately 22–23 ms to about 3 ms.

The upstream issue has been corrected, and everything currently appears to be back to normal.

We are sorry for the problems this caused. We work hard to provide reliable Internet service and do everything we can to avoid these types of disruptions, even when the problem occurs upstream and outside the Salem Fiber network.
